I have Multiple Sclerosis MS and have been using Avonex for over 10 yrs. My night for the Intramuscular IM Injection is Thursday. I have been on this schedule from the start. Some mornings (1:00 am – 8:00 am) after the injection are uneventful, but other mornings are sometimes the ultimate flu like symptoms. Really bad headache, muscle aches, tossing and turning in bed, can’t sleep and even my ears hurt. These symptoms can last all day or subside by Noon. I never know what the Morning After Avonex will bring me.While I experience these symptoms I wonder why I put my body through these weekly injections? My answer to this is: Although the symptoms of an Avonex injection seem unbearable, it is manageable. Having Avonex slow the progression of MS, to me, is worth a few hours of being uncomfortable.
